Rev. Michael Pfleger, 77, was reinstated effective August 24 after the Archdiocese of Chicago's Independent Review Board completed its investigation. He is known nationally for his progressive activism. Cardinal Blase Cupich, 77, said the board, assisted by the Office of Child Protection and outside investigators, concluded there was “no reason to believe” Pfleger was guilty of the allegation. Cupich accepted the recommendation and returned him to ministry at St. Sabina. According to the Chicago Sun-Times reporting, a woman alleged that Pfleger sexually abused her when she was a girl attending St. Sabina's school sometime between 1993 and 1995. Vatican diplomat calls for end to Ukraine war during Moscow visit: Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States, met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday. “Let us be clear, this war must end,” Gallagher said after the talks. Jones Bogonko Onchonga used forged documents to pose as a Catholic priest and “celebrate” Eucharists in several churches. Suspicions arose during a Eucharist on August 9, when Catholics noticed irregularities in his celebration: he appeared tense and left the altar during the service. A photo was shared among local clergy, prompting questions about his liturgical identity. The Diocese of Lodwar later confirmed that he was not an ordained priest, but a married layman and father of two.
